Congress Demands Apology

The Congress has condemned the reported ‘offensive remark’ of a BJP Deputy Leader of Opposition Bishnu Charan Sethy in the House.

OPCC termed it as offensive against the women of a particular community and demanded an apology from him.
The party also threatened to stage dharna till the session is underway if the Member failed to tender any apology.
Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) President Niranjan Patnaik said, “The way Deputy Leader of Opposition Bishnu Babu of BJP has given his statement in the Assembly and the language he used is absolutely unfortunate. We strongly condemn it.”
He said the Indian culture is to honour the women.
“His (Sethy) mean attitude towards the women is uncalled for and indecent. Regretfully I would like to say that he is a senior leader of a political party and is also the Deputy Leader of Opposition in the Assembly. But, he is going against the Indian culture,” he said.
Mr.Patnaik said Mr.Sethy must tender an apology.

“We demand that he should beg apology. In the past also it has been noticed that the leaders of that party (BJP) have used offensive statement against the women,” the Congress Veteran said.
Mr.Patnaik asked will it be decent to use the word prostitution for women of other community after they are divorced?
“It is against our cultural ethos and etiquette. If he doesn’t beg apology, we’ll stage dharna till the Assembly session is on,” the PCC President threatened.
Congress Lawmaker Santosh Singh Saluja raised serious objections over Mr.Sethy’s outburst against women of minority community in the House.

When Mr.Sethy made his point, Mr.Saluja raised objections to it.

Congress MLA Mohammed Moquim outside the House said, “Our demand today in the House was to expunge the objectionable word. Both BJD and Congress members protested against such comments on a community.”

“Odisha is a peace-loving State. We wish that all should co-exist here in a harmonious milieu. Better not to discuss further on it,” Mr.Moquim said.
