Bonus For KL Pluckers

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik Tuesday announced bonus to the tune of Rs 222 crore for kendu leaf pluckers, binders and casual workers in State for the year 2018.


This will benefit over eight lakh pluckers, 20,000 binders and 17,000 casual workers, a release from Chief Miniter’s office said.

The meeting where the decision was made was attended by Forest & Environment Minister Bikram Keshari Arukha, Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi and Development Commissioner Asit Kumar Tripathy among others.  

He said nearly one crore man days are being created due to kendu leaf business.

The Chief Minister said these workers are contributing significantly for the progress of the State and they deserve a share of the profit accrued from the business, the release said.

Notably, the State Government has initiated several schemes for the Kendu leaf pluckers, binders and casual workers.

The pluckers have been provided with Kerry uniform and slippers, casual workers given mosquito nets and blankets and assistance for medical treatment, assistance for marriage of their daughters, and assistance for death or permanent disability and scholarships for their children’s education.

“These initiatives have helped them improve their social and economic conditions,” the release quoted the Chief Minister as saying.
