Smooth Sailing For Rath

Rath Jatra of Trinity held smoothly amidst tight security in the temple town of Puri, thanks to the coordination between Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) and State Police.

All the rituals were held as per the schedule with the cooperation of all the stakeholders and servitors, said Pradipta Kumar Mohapatra, Chief Administrator of SJTA.

SJTA had prepared a time line for the procession of deities and pulling of chariots and hoped with cooperation of all the stake holders, rituals went on smoothly.

All the three chariots reached their destination-Shree Gundicha Temple in time and in a hassle free manner.

District Collector Balwant Singh, SP Puri, Umashankar Das and the team worked in tandem.

“The servitors fully cooperated with theSJTA to make the festival a grand success," said Binayak Dasmohapatra, a senior servitor.

The Annual Festival was held just a month after Super Storm FANI battered holy place, where it wrecked large-scale devastation.

The servitors carried the idols of Lord Sudarshan, Lord Balabhadra, Lord Jagannath, and Devi Subhadra out of the 12th-century shrine in a ceremonial procession called "Pahandi".

Lord Jagannath was seated on his chariot "Nandighosh", Lord Balabhadra on "Taladwaja" and Devi Subhadra on "Darpadalan", along with Lord Sudarshan.

Puri Shankaracharya Swami Nischalananda Saraswati paid his tributes to the idols on their respective chariots.

Gajapati Maharaj of Puri Dibyasingha Deb arrived in his royal palanquin and carried out the "Chhera Panhara" ritual, the ceremonial sweeping of the chariots with a golden broom, amid chanting of "slokas" by the priests.

People started pulling the chariots around 2.15 pm, SJTA Chief, Mr.Mohapatra said.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, other Ministers, MLAs and many other dignitaries were present in Puri to witness the grand festival.

The Odisha Police has deployed 10,000 security personnel in this holy town for the annual Rath Jatra of Lord Jagannath which will be attended by lakhs of people on Thursday, ADG, Law and Order Sanjeeb Panda said.

Anticipating huge congregation of devotees on the Rath Jatra day,10,000 strong force have been deployed on the ground, while personnel of Indian Navy and Coast Guard will patrol in the sea, ADG
 Mr.Panda said.

As many as 142 platoons of Odisha police, about 1,000 officers of various ranks, 2,450 Home Guards, three company of RAF, two units of ODRAF, one unit NDRF, three company OSAF besides eight anti-sabotage teams, a bomb disposal squad with sniffer dogs have been deployed in Puri, the Top Cop said.

Two ADGP rank officers, five IGPs and 1,000 Commandant rank officers will supervise the security arrangements.

"Jatra held smoothly and all cooperated " said Soumendra Priyadarshi, the IGP, Central Range.

Traffic arrangement was handled by IGP State Armed Police, Amitabh Thakur and it was well organized, said an official.

Apart from police, different state government departments like health, urban and housing development department, sanitation and others did their their best to make the occasion a grand success, said RDC Central Division Anil Samal.

Chariots of Trinity Lord Balabhadra, Lord Jagannath and Devi Subhadra's chariots were pulled by the devotees in presence of lakhs of people on the grand road.

Governor Prof.Ganeshi Lal, Chief Minister Mr.Patnaik and others pulled the chariots.

Mr.Patnaik greeted people on the occasion of Lord Jagannath's annual Rath Jatra and sought the blessings of the deities for the happiness and prosperity of people.

President Ram Nath Kovind, Vice-President M Venkaiah Naidu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi also greeted people on the occasion.

"Greetings and good wishes to fellow citizens on the auspicious occasion of Rath Yatra. May the blessings of Lord Jagannath bring peace, happiness and prosperity to everyone's lives," the President said in a tweet.

"Best wishes to everyone on the special occasion of the Rath Yatra. We pray to Lord Jagannath and seek his blessings for the good health, happiness and prosperity of everyone. Jai Jagannath," the tweet by the Prime Minister said.

Union Minister Steel, Dharmendra Pradhan and Union Minister MSME, Pratap Chandra Sarangi greeted people on the auspicious occasion.
