PM Praises Parida

Clogging of the city streets and drainage problems were brought under the spotlight by 34-year-old Sitanshu Mohan Parida, an employee of the SOA Deemed to be University here, drawing the attention of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.


The Prime Minister, in his ‘Mann ki Baat’, praised Mr.Parida for his suggestions focusing on drainage issues in cities on Sunday.

“This is something which I will remember all my life as the Prime Minister took note of my suggestion and praised the same,” Mr.Parida, who works as an Assistant Administrative Officer at SOA, said.
 
Mr.Parida, who is a management graduate, said he came across a government website which said the Prime Minister invited people to share their ideas and promptly sent his suggestion without expecting that it would be taken note of at the PM’s level.

“My suggestion was that we needed more drainage projects under the Swachh Bharat scheme because the problem increasing in the growing cities,” he said adding “I pleaded for attention to this problem which will benefit the people.

Take for example the city of Bhubaneswar, now listed as a Smart City, which has been dealing with serious drainage issues, he said.
 
“I also suggested that all cables should remain underground, at least in states which were prone to cyclones,” Mr.Parida said referring to the devastation caused by cyclone ‘Fani’ nearly two months ago.

The affected cities would not have remained dark for days had the electric cables being kept underground, he said.
