Pradhan Plea For Labors

Union Petroleum & Natural Gas and Steel Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has urged External Affairs Minister S Jayashankar on 6 June to intervene and secure the early return of some Odia workers stranded in Dubai for a long time.


In a letter to the External Affairs Minister, Mr.Pradhan wrote the he came across a news report on May 30 telecast on a regional satellite channel regarding these  Odia people stranded in Dubai.

“On further enquiry it is revealed that 10 people who were working in the company Asia Pacific Building Contracting LLC, Dubai and accommodated at Sajja, Sharjah are kept captive,” he said.

Mr.Pradhan said these workers had released a video, about a month back, asking for help for their immediate repatriation and their mobile numbers are now deactivated.

The Union Minister said that these men belong to Nayagarh and Ganjam districts of Odisha and provided few documents such as copy of the passport of one person --Pratap Maharana with phone number and a copy of the commercial licence of the company etc. for ready reference.

Further, he said, it is stated that though District Labour Officer of Nayagarh also visited the house of some of the victims, there is no progress in the matter yet.

He urged the External Affairs Minister to ensure immediate repatriation of these victims to India.

“Keeping in view the sensitivity of the matter, I take this opportunity to request you for your personal intervention and take up the matter with the concerned officials for early release of these people on humanitarian grounds,” Mr.Pradhan urged.
