Meher Sorry For Sit Up

Saroj Kumar Meher, BJD Lawmaker allegedly "forcing" a Junior Engineer of the Department of Works to do sit-ups in full public view for poor road construction work in Patnagarh Assembly constituency has gone viral on Social Media.

A video of newly elected BJD MLA from Patnagarh is viral and it has generated lot of criticism from the political arena.
When the matter was brought to the attention of District Magistrate, Arindam Dakua, he said this is not a good thing.
DM promised that action will be taken after Patnagarh Sub-Collector files a report on the incident.
"I have sought a factual report from Patnagarh Sub-Collector on the incident. Any action will be taken based on the Sub-Collector's report," Mr.Dakua said.
Sources said the Lawmaker, visited Belpada block in Balangir district on Wednesday, where locals complained of poor quality of Mandal-Belpada Bypass construction work.
In the purported video, which was trending on Social Media, Mr.Meher is seen reprimanding the Junior Engineer and asking him to do 100 sit-ups in the middle of the road.
The Junior Engineer is seen apologising for his "laxity" in performing duties, but the Patnagarh Lawmaker was in no mood to listen.
Mr. Meher allegedly threatened the Public Works Department (PWD) Engineer with "Mob Thrashing", following which the Officer of the Government was seen doing sit-ups on the road.
Meanwhile, Executive Engineer L N Mishra said the bypass construction work was underway.
"We will look into the complaints and make rectifications if there is a concern over the quality of construction," Mr.Mishra said.
While Mr.Meher was not immediately available for comment, both the BJP and the Congress criticised the Governing BJD Legislator for his action.
"If it is true, then it can be said that the MLA has taken law into his hands. I condemn his action," said Balangir MLA Narasingha Mishra.
Senior BJP leader K V Singh Deo, who was defeated by Meher in the just-concluded election, said, "The incident proves the kind of people the BJD has chosen as its MLAs."
 Mr.Meher, a first-time MLA, defeated Mr.Singh Deo by a margin of over 11,000 votes.
In the meantime Mr.Meher tendered apology for forcing government official do sit-ups in public in said, "Locals were angry over poor road construction work & demanded action; as situation was out of my control I had to ask the official to do sit-ups".
