Mobile Banks In FANI Zone

With people struggle to cope with crisis situation and serious cash crunch in Puri, which has been severely battered by cyclone Fani, Mobile Banking Services of Odisha State Cooperative Bank (OSCB) has brought cheers in their face.

While Commercial Banks have failed to provide similar services, OSCB has been able to help out the people and has disbursed more than Rs.One Crore to the people, said sources.
After Super Storm-FANI hit the Temple Town Puri on 3 May all the Banks Branches and ATMs were closed down as Data Service was defunct due to massive damage to Telecommunication Infrastructure.
Secretary Cooperation and Chief of OSCB, Krishan Kumar feeling the requirement of the people asked OSCB Managing Director Debendra Kumar Jena to provide Mobile Banking Services in FANI battered Puri.
Mobile ATMs were brought in to Puri from various places of Berhampur, Keonjhar, Angul, Mayurbhanj, Bhawanipatna, Koraput, Boudh and Sambalpur.
These services were made available in several places of Puri Town like Bada Sankha, near Town Police Station, Atharnala, Shree Gundicha Mandir, City Market Square, Konark, Nimpara.
People were very happy and official sources said as on 14 May 3407 transactions were carried out with drawl of Rs.1,36,83,066.
Mobile ATM Service in OSCB was conceived with a motto of Banking At Door Step by Visionary Mandarin Bishnupada Sethi, when he was the Chief of the Bank.
Now during the crisis period such facilities are coming to the rescue of the hapless people in Super Storm hit zone of Puri District.
OSCB is taking up such operations, when commercial banks operating in the State have failed in extending mobile banking services in the affected areas.
As the banking operation in cyclone hit areas came to a standstill, requirement of Mobile Banking hit the minds of the Mandarins and political personalities as well
Commercial Bankers were needed to activate Banking Correspondents while ensuring delivery of cash through Point of Sale(POS) devices in adequate numbers in the affected areas mostly in Bhubaneswar and Puri to meet the cash and other financial requirements of the people.
But it did not happened, while OSCB took care of the people in FANI hit zones of Puri District.
