Union Power Secretary Ajay Bhalla has appreciated Odisha Government’s initiative in post-cyclone restoration work.

 
Mr.Bhalla has said that power and telecommunication services in FANI devastated areas will be restored at the earliest.  
 
Union Secretary held a high level review meeting with the Odisha Government at the State Secretariat here on 13 May.
 
He said stock of the post-cyclone situation was taken and assurance of all kinds of assistance in restoration work was given to State Government  to bring back normalcy in FANI-affected areas.

Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi said that the cooperation of Union Cabinet Secretary-led National Crisis Management Committee (NCMC) has been of great help in restoration work in cyclone-hit areas.

Chief Secretary Mr.Padhi assured of providing free space in panchayat office premises to set of telephone towers in rural areas.
 
Besides, spaces will be provided in government buildings to erect ‘roof-top’ towers, he added.
 
Mr.Padhi suggested that there should be facility for all telecom service providers to use these towers, and the central team agreed to the condition.
 
Stating that priority is being given in restoration of telecommunication service in the worst affected Puri district, Union Telecom Ministry Additional Secretary Anshu Prakash said that rapid and significant improvement in telecom service is seen in all the 11 affected districts except Puri.
 
Service providers like BSNL, Airtel, Vodafone and Jio have geared up the restoration work, he added.
 
Development Commissioner,  Asit Tripathy, informed that all the 8 ‘Master Mobile Switching Centers’ and ‘Base Switching Centers’ have been activated, and at least 60 percent improvement has been witnessed in Data Connectivity. While 59 percent telephone towers has been activated in Khordha district, 37 and 74 percent towers are working now in Puri and Cuttack districts respectively, he added.
 
He further said that 58 percent telephone towers in Bhubaneswar city are functional now.
 
As far as banking service is concerned, it’s returning to normal, said the officials. 70.5 percent bank branches in Puri District, 92 percent in Khurdha District, 91 percent in Cuttack District, 88 percent in Jagatsinghpur District, 97 percent in Ganjam District  and 92 percent in Kendrapada District have started doing business as usual post cyclone.
 
There is rapid improvement in ATM services too with better data connectivity now, officials say.
