Hijack Slur On BJD

Veteran Saffron Leader, Bijay Mohapatra has alleged that the Governing Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has hijacked relief distribution operations in cyclone-hit Patkura Assembly constituency in Kendrapada district.

Mr.Mohapatra, who is the BJP candidate in the Patkura Assembly seat, in a written complaint lodged his complaint with the Returning Officer.

He has alleged that the Odisha Government's relief operations have been turned into a tool by BJD candidate Savitri Agarwal to "Tempt" the voters ahead of the elections.

Relief materials were distributed by Savitri Devi in the very presence of the Government officials in charge of relief distribution, Mr.Mohapatra alleged in his petition.

Mr.Mohapatra alleged that Governing BJD has made mockery of democracy by taking over the relief and rescue measures in the aftermath of cyclone FANI.

Saffron Leader is peeved the way the District Administration is helping the BJD candidate and allowing her to handle relief materials.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) had postponed the polling for Patkura Assembly Seat for two months due to cyclone 'Fani' that affected 14 Districts in Odisha.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik went to New Delhi and met Chief Election Commissioner and requested to postpone the polls in Patkura due to devastation meted out by FANI.

In view of the serious devastation caused by cyclone Fani, ECI had decided to extend completion of the elections from Patkura assembly segment for 60 days. The poll date will be suitably decided after assessing local situation.

Earlier, the ECI had fixed 19 May as the date of polls for Patkura. Polling in Patkura Assembly seat was initially scheduled on29 April, but it could not be held because of the untimely demise of BJD candidate Bed Prakash Agarwal on 20 April.
