Urban Water Asks 88 CR

In order to restore all the water supply installations in Urban Zones, which was hit by Extremely Severe Cyclonic Storm-FANI at least Rs.88 Crore will be needed.

FANI has damaged at least 337 Water Supply Projects in 53 Urban Centres of 13 Districts, which wreaked havoc on 3 May.

According to latest estimate of the Housing and Urban Development Department, extensive damage to different electrical, water supply and structural damages occurred during Cyclone in 53 Urban Local Bodies (ULB)s.

Worst affected Urban Zones are Bhubaneswar, Puri, Cuttack, Jagatisnghpur and Kendrapdada. Three Eleavated Service Reservoirs in Puri were severely damaged and collapsed causing a damage of Rs.2 Crore.

Due to heavy wind above 200 KMPH, there was instant damage to High Tensions and Low-Tension Cables causing instant failure of electrical supply to run the pumps. Alternate arrangements were taken up by the PHD Authorities.

Secretary Housing & Urban Development, G Mathivathnan supervised the entire operations, for which normal water supply is resumed in all 53-cyclone affected ULBs within 76 hours in spite of difficulties in coordination due to failure of telecommunication system.

102 DG Sets were made available and another 69 DG sets have been arranged immediately along with fuel to meet the emergency exigencies.

Control Room was set up in all ULBs t attend drinking water issues 24X7.

WhatsApp Group was formed on FANI Cyclone was monitored closely.

In fact WhatsApp helped in information dissemination in a big way, admit officials.
