HAM Radio For FANI

Way back in 1999, when Super Cyclone hit Odisha Coast, his friend came all the way from Pune to Bhubaneswar to run HAM Radio, which came to rescue of the State Administration in a big way at that time, said T Ravi Teja.

20 years after HAM Radio came to rescue of the Relief and Rescue Operation Authorities as telephone, internet and mobile services came to halt due to Cyclone FANI.

Mr.Teja, who is now operating HAM Communication System at Rajiv Bhawan since 3 May is happy over the service rendered to the State, which faced Extremely Severe Cyclonic Storm-FANI on the very day. Officers are very cooperative and friendly, said he.

HAM Communication System was set up at Bhubaneswar, Puri and Khorda, which faced wrath of the Cyclone-FANI.

Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi talked to Puri Collector and Khurda Collector through HAM Radio as Telephone and Mobile system was disrupted by FANI.

Mr.Padhi talked to both the Collectors as these Districts were advised on several counts on relief operations, said sources.

Senior Officers also talked to Puri and Khorda District Administration for relief operations and relief materials were moved after talking though HAM Radio.

Movement of food stuff, drinking water and polythene was monitored through HAM Radio as there was hardly any connect of Mobile and Telephone due to extreme

HAM Communication System was utilized during Prime Minister Visit and Additional Principal Secretary to PM, P K Mishra visit to the FANI affected zones.

After Prime Minister left for Delhi, Mr.Mishra visited the FANI affected areas to see the destruction in the field.

Khurda District Administration was connected through HAM Communications System, which was cut off due to snapping of Telephone and Mobile Connectivity,

HAM Radio Operator, Mr.Teja happily performed the services and he said this stint gave him good experience though he is working in this line for last eight long years.

Mr.Teja of Telengana Ham Radio Club used to move to any place, which faced cyclone and during Hud Hud he was also active in running the System.

When he received call from West Bengal Radio Club, Mr.Teja immediately responded and came to the State.

Mr.Teja, based at Hyderabad is very happy with Odisha experience as he has been able to help out the State Administration, which is engaged in massive relief and restoration operations in FANI affected districts.

As the Telephone and Mobile Services have been resumed, now HAM Communications System will be winded up and he will leave for Hyderabad soon.

In fact HAM Radio was the Last Line Of Defence, when all communications failed due to Cyclone FANI, said an official, which proved its mettle added he.
