Naveen Plea For Temples

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has urged to depute a Team of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) to assess the damages caused to Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri and the Sun Temple in Konark.

In a letter to Union Culture Minister Mahesh Sharma, Chief Minister Mr.Patnaik said  the extremely severe cyclonic storm ‘FANI' made a landfall near Puri in the morning of 3 May and caused extensive damage and destruction in its wake.

“It is reported that significant damage has been caused to the infrastructure of Shree Jagannath Temple at Puri,” Mr.Patnaik said in his letter.

Even the Sun Temple at Konark is reportedly closed for tourists, Mr.Patnaik informed.

The Chief Minister wrote that the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) is the concerned agency for maintenance and upkeep of these world famous temple sites.

“I would request you to consider deputing a high level team of experts to assess the damages caused to these structures so that appropriate remedial measures can be undertaken by the ASI at the earliest, especially keeping in view the Rath Jatra scheduled on 4 July, 2019,” Mr.Patnaik urged the Union Minister.
