UN Lauds Odisha Efforts

United Nation has commended the efforts of the Odisha Government for its efforts to evacuate 1.2 Million People from the Extreme Severe Cyclonic Storm affected Districts.


United Nations Resident Coordinator of India, Yashmin Ali Haque has sent a letter to Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi on 8 May lauding the efforts of the State Government in this regard.

UN authorities, while complimenting the efforts of the Odisha Government for massive evacuation initiative has expressed solidarity with the people of Odisha in the context of devastating Cyclone FANI.

While expressing condolences for the loss of 38 lives have expressed deep concern for the impact the Cyclone has had on 10 Million People.

UN has commended the efforts of the Government of Odisha in evacuating 12 Lakh people and making arrangements to address their immediate lifesaving needs.

Odisha Administration’s preparedness and pace of response have been critical in saving lives have been appreciated by United Nations.

UN Resident Coordinator has informed that United Nations in India stands ready to offer assistance and support to the Odisha Government in post Disaster Response, needs assessment and recovery planning.

UN Team in Odisha is closely coordinating with the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC) and Odisha State Disaster Management Authority (OSDMA) to extend support across the Sectors.

Chief of Odisha Field Office UNICEF, Monika Nielsen has been designated as UN Focal Point for coordination with the State Government.
