BJD Supremo Naveen Patnaik today accused BJP-led NDA Government at Centre of showing utter indifference towards the cause of farmers in Odisha.
Deploring Centre’s attitude on BJP’s promise in the 2014 election manifesto to double the price of paddy, Mr.Patnaik said the BJP-led NDA government did nothing to help the farmers.
He said the NDA Government ignored the Odisha Legislative Assembly resolution on raising the minimum support price (MSP) of paddy.
“Odisha Assembly passed a resolution with support from all political parties. I also raised the issue with the Prime Minister in 2016. But, how unfortunate it was that the PMO did not even have two minutes to discuss such a sensitive issue pertaining to the genuine demands of the farmers of Odisha,” said Mr.Patnaik while addressing a rally in Balangir today. He also blamed two ministers in the Union Cabinet who hail from Odisha maintaining eerie silence over the issue.
In his election speech, at Atabira, BJD Supremo Patnaik said there had been a conspiracy to stop KALIA, the welfare scheme his government has introduced in Odisha for the farmers. “Nobody can stop the scheme till I am at the helm of affairs in the State,” he thundered.

He lashed out at the Central government for plotting to stop the KALIA Scheme and reiterated his promise to farmers that two installments of benefit under the scheme, that is Rs. 10,000, will be paid to them at one go on the first day of his next government.
Mr.Patnaik said weavers were also thrown into distress after imposition of GST on their products and it came down only after demands were made by the State government to do away with it.
Stating that Koshali is a rich language, Patnaik said his demand to enlist the language in the eighth schedule of the Constitution was also ignored by the Modi government at Centre.
“This is the attitude of the BJP government at Centre towards Koshali language, towards the House Committee of the State Assembly as well as towards the farmers and weavers,” the Chief Minister said.
He took a dig at the tall talks of the BJP leaders and said they were never with the people of Odisha at the time of their distress.
“But four-and-half crore Odia people are my family members and I will always be with them,” Mr.Patnaik said while seeking blessings of the people for his party in the on-going elections.
