Sumitra In Naveen Fold

With Opposition Women Congress State Chairperson Sumitra Jena joining Biju Janata Dal (BJD), Naveen Patnaik’s ‘Women Connect’  took a full circle.

This is not only a major blow to opposition Congress ahead of the polls, but also gives a message in the Political Circle that this time women folks also in Congress will also favour BJD Supremo in 2019 Polls.
Odisha Pradesh Mahila Congress President Sumitra Jena on 9 April announced "I have resigned from the post of Mahila Congress President as well as from the primary membership of the party," and joined BJD.
After joining BJD, she accused the Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) President Niranjan Patnaik of ignoring women while selecting candidates for the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections.
Ms.Jena also accused the OPCC President of fielding weak candidates against the ruling BJD candidates.

She expressed discontent over being denied a party ticket to contest from the Bhadrak assembly segment.
Ms.Jena said, "I was an aspirant for the Bhadrak assembly seat, but the party ticket went to someone who was not even a primary
member of the party”.
The Congress has fielded Nalinikant Mohanty from the Bhadrak assembly seat against BJD’s Sanjeeb Mallick and BJP’s Pradeep Naik.
