Where were national party leaders when Odisha was hit by natural calamities like cyclone, floods and drought?


BJD President and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today asked while addressing an election meeting at Gopalpur under Berhampur Lok Sabha constituency.

Naveen said in reference of frequent visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP President Amit Shah and Congress President Rahul Gandhi. Apart from these three leaders, a number of Chief Ministers of BJP ruled states, former CMs and Union Ministers have been touring the state on election campaign.
 
Terming the national party leaders as seasonal birds, Mr.Patnaik said he was all along with the people of Odisha during calamities.
 
“Where were these leaders when Cyclone Phailin, Hudhud, Titli and even drought hit Odisha? Now it’s election time, they are visiting the State seeking votes. They are shedding crocodile tears,” Naveen said while ridiculing the BJP and Congress leaders.
 
“However, I was with you and will be with you,” he said adding, “4.5 crore Odias are my family.”
Naveen hit out at the BJP -led Centre for negligence and failure to keep promises made for Odisha.
He accused Centre of neglecting Odisha, whether it be natural disasters or granting special category status to the State.
“Where is special category status? Where is women’s reservation Bill? Where is farmers’ insurance? Why did not Odisha receive any cooperation and help from Centre, he asked saying, “Now the top BJP leaders are shedding crocodile tears. They are coming during elections and forgetting Odisha after elections,” he said.
The BJD Supremo also criticized the BJP its failure to grant special category status to Odisha as promised and making 33 per cent reservation for women in Lok Sabha and State Legislative Assemblies.
Mr.Patnaik also questioned as to why the Centre discontinued scholarship scheme meant for ST/SC students.
He also asked where is 10 crore employment to youth in 5 years.
Mr.Patnaik also accused the opposition BJP of blocking distribution of KALIA assistance to 20 lakh farmers on the pretext of model code of conduct.
Naveen embarked upon a road show that covered about 60 kilometre.
