Khorda Tops Living Ease

With preliminary reports coming in Khurda District is all set to top the 30 District s list in the State on Ease of Living.


NITI Aayog is preparing a District Wise Ease of Living Index taking various developmental aspects into consideration. A Draft Report has been finalized and soon Final Version of the List will be released.

Amitabh Kant, CEO, NITI Aayog is coordinating the entire exercise, which will finalize Ease Of Living-2019 District List very soon.

Official sources said that, Odisha having a population of 4.19 Crore is included in the Low Income Group States, which has Per Capita GDP is Rs.52,559.

According to official sources, leading districts on Ease of Living Index in the State are Khurda, Cutttack, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda and Subarnapur.

Ease of Living has been incorporated taking three major issues including Basic Needs, elements of Welfare and Scope of Human Betterment.

An official said Ease of Living can be defined as multidimensional system contributing to the physical, social, mental well being and personal development of all its inhabitants.

EoL supports the idea of delivering on the key principles of equity, dignity, participation, accessibility and empowerment of all its citizens, said Mr.Kant in his letter to the State Government.

NITI Aayog is soliciting suggestions from State Government in this regard as how to improve the Final Report and accordingly requested the Government to provide its inputs in this regard, said sources.

NITI Aayog has taken the backward districts, which are notified as Aspirational Districts, include Kalahandi, Rayagada, Koraput, Nabarangpur and Malkangiri are finding it difficult to cope up to the level of Leading districts on EoL.

A score card has been prepared for all the states and the districts on various issues like availability of basic needs, shelter safety and security, water and sanitation etc.

So also healthcare, access to education and knowledge, welfare facilities, access to higher education, sustainable environment, governance, betterment for human being and host of other issues.

These aspects are taken into consideration while mapping the Ease of Living in a district, pointed out a senior official.

There is lot of variation within the State and among the districts, Khurda is leading from the front as it stands on a better footing on these aspects, while Cuttack comes as second and Sambalpur as third, said sources.

With fresh inputs from the State Government over the availability of facilities, which have not come to the notice of the NITI Aayog will incorporate fresh information in the list of EoL, said sources.
 
NITI Aayog wants to include key data like Per Capita District Domestic Product, District Domestic Expenditure, and steps to capture congestion in urban areas etc.
 
However it will take time and in later stage these aspects will be included, while preparing EoL, an official said.
