Arun Mohanty Memorial Talk


Fondly remembering Professor Arun Mohanty and appreciating his contribution on Indo-Russian Studies, Speakers spoke high about the Academician for his input for the Academic world.


Veteran Diplomat Kanwal Sibal stated that India-Russia relationship is a time-tested one, and it has huge potentials in the future.

Delivering the inaugural Professor Arun Mohanty Memorial Lecture, Mr.Sibal said that India-Russia relationship, particularly, in the field of science and technology, nuclear energy, defence and trade holds potentiality.

India and Russia have renewed scope in the field of energy cooperation as both are members of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), said he.

Russia is interested to invest in India’s defence industrial corridor which will further boost India-Russia bilateral relations. 

India’s ‘Make in India’ program has also attracted the attention of Russia. There is a greater convergence in the approaches of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin towards building a stronger India-Russia Strategic partnership in the 21st century, said Mr.Sibal. 
He argued that a stronger Russia is in India’s interest.

Ace Diplomat also stated that India and Russia can join hands together in dialogue and nation building process of Afghanistan.

He suggested a greater role for Russia in order to promote multilateralism and multiculturalism in the world.

Chairing the event, Prof. Ajay Patnaik, Dean School of International Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University stated that Prof. Mohanty’s scholarly and academic contributions are immense, in-depth and wide-ranging.

The phenomenal achievements and contribution of Prof. Mohanty to the Russian and Central Asian studies will always be cherished by the scholars and the academic world.

He also stated that BRICS is a potential platform for India and Russia to cooperate in future.
