More than Twenty Two Lakh beneficiaries have now been covered in the State Food Security Scheme (SFSS), the poor and eligible people left out under National Food Security Act (NFSA) will receive their quota of 5 KG rice @Rs.1 a KG.

When on 2 October, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik unveiled this new State Scheme, totally funded by the State Exchequer,18.32 Lakh beneficiaries were listed said an official of Department of Food, Supply and Consumer Welfare (DoFCW).

Latest Eligible List, which has been updated as on 10 January reveals that 22,10,686  eligible beneficiaries are listed in the scheme till date and rest 3 Lakh will be covered as soon as possible, sources in Department of Food Supply and Consumer Welfare (DoFCW) say.

SFSS targets to cover a total of 25 Lakh beneficiaries of 6.70 Lakh families under the Flagship Program of the State Government as announced earlier.

More than 88 Percent of the target has been achieved, revealed Secretary Food Supply and Consumer Welfare Vir Vikram Yadav.

It came to fore that distribution of Ration Card and Rice are going on simultaneously, so that beneficiaries those get card will immediately can avail rice, officials say.

In fact those eligible poor, those were not able to get benefit under NFSA are listed in SFSS to be provided the Food Security, said an official.

With the overdrive by the State Administration, all the District Collectors, Civil Supplies Officers and others worked in tandem as Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi monitored the Flagship Scheme on Food Security regularly.

Mr.Padhi held Video Conferences with the District Collectors several times after the State Food Security Scheme was announced by Chief Minister.

Vir Vikram Yadav, Secretary Food Supply and Consumer Welfare was in constant touch with the District Level Officials and Managing Director Odisha Civil Supply Corporation, Saroj Kumar Samal formed a Whatsapp group for updated activities.

Now required additional food grains are in place and distribution is being monitored by the District Collectors and CSOs, said sources.

Allotment for January and February was released so that there will be no hassle and per month 9,862 Metric Ton of Rice is being provided to the districts.

Officials say that over 75 Percent transactions go through Aadhaar Authentication Process. However as there are poor connectivity Aadhaar Authentication is a having problem, officials admit.

While entire operation of SFSS is monitored at the State, District and Block Level, the Officials have played a vital role in achieving such a big target within a short span of time, they say.

Way back on 2 October, 2008, State Government started providing rice at Rs 2 per kg since 2008.

The success of the program prompted the decision to launch rice at Re 1 per kg for people living below poverty line in 2013.

And now an additional 22 Lakh beneficiaries will reap the benefit of cheap rice to have food security.
