Free LED For Rural Folks

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on 11 January inaugurated the “Ama Ghare LED” Scheme, which will benefit 95 Lakh House Holds in the State.

Chief Minister Mr.Patnaik said Four LED Bulbs of 9 Watt Capacity will be distributed to each beneficiary registered under National Food Security Act(NFSA) and State Food Security Scheme(SFSC).

Minister Energy, Susant Singh, Secretary Energy, Hemant Sharma and the Team Energy were present in the meeting.

Due to non-availability of quality LED Bulbs at reasonable price in Rural Markets of the State, consumers are using Incandescent or CFL Bulbs, for which they are paying higher electricity bills.

Further the Demand of energy of the State is increasing by such high watt consumption, said Secretary Energy, Mr.Sharma.

Considering the above scenario, the Department of Energy has come up with this “Ama Ghare LED” Scheme.

OPTCL, being the Nodal Organization will be implementing the scheme and Bulbs will be distributed through PEETHA Camps and PDS Outlets.

Beneficiaries will be given Bulbs free, however they are needed to collect the Bulbs by giving their bio-metric authentication at the said places, said Mr.Sharma.

Minister Energy Mr.Singh was happy with the conceptualization and implementation of the innovative program with twin idea of curbing high watt consumption and making available LED Bulbs to the consumers in Rural Areas of the State.

He thanked Secretary Energy Hemant Sharma and his Team Energy for their valuable inputs for encapsulating the scheme that would bring positive change in the consumer behavior of the state towards use of energy efficient LED Bulbs.

Mr. Singh said “this would definitely help in controlling the energy requirement of the state.
