Singh Begins State Visit


Chairman of Fifteenth Finance Commission (FFC), N K Singh feels that Odisha has a huge potential to become a Driver of Country's Economic Growth.

 
Mr. Singh, who is on a three days long visit to the State said "Odisha has a huge scope in terms of becoming a driver and among front leaders of India's economic development process”.
 
Minister Finance Sashi Bhusan Behera, Principal Secretary Finance, Ashok Kumar Meena and other senior officials received Mr.Singh at the Airport.
 
Mr.Singh said: "It (Odisha) has lagged behind, no doubt. We will try to see how this can best be addressed, and the role of finance commission which can play in this regard."
 
Chairman FFC Mr.Singh came earlier today on a State visit as the Commission will make consultations with the State Government, Political Parties, Urban and Local Bodies and other Stakeholders.
 
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik will present a Memorandum to the Commission for recommending financial allocation for 2020-2025.
 
Mr.Singh said the FFC will have wide ranging consultation with the State Government, Political Leaders and other Stakeholders like the Chambers of Commerce and Industries.

"Of course, we have an important role as far as three-tire bodies are concerned. We will talk to Urban Local Bodies and Panchayati Raj Institutions. So, it is fairly full wide ranging consultation with multiple stakeholders," Chairman FFC Mr. Singh said.
 
He said that the commission, during its interaction, would like to understand the opportunities and challenges of the economic development of Odisha.
 
This apart, the Commission will undertake field visits to take stock of the State Government's Poverty Eradication Program, Odisha Livelihood Mission (OLM) Chilika Development Authority and other institutions.
 
The Commission Members will also visit Self Help Groups (SHGs), drinking water projects, cyclone shelters, and other development projects.
 
While Chairman FFC Mr.Singh came today, Members of Commission Anoop Singh, Ashok Lahiri and Ramesh Chand will arrive on 8 Jaunary.
 
Marathon deliberations will be held on 8 and 9 January.
 
Chief Minister Mr.Patnaik will present memorandum on 9 January listing out various demands to FFC.
