Poor NH Hits Tribal Zone

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has lamented over the poor conditions of National Highways in the Tribal Zone of North Odisha..

And accordingly Mr.Patnaik on 4 January urged the Union Government for timely maintenance, improvement and widening of National Highways in Mayurbhanj district.

In a letter to Union Minister Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari, Chief Minister lamented that the people of the State are suffering a lot due to lack of timely maintenance, improvement, widening of the existing National Highways (NHs) which are important communication links in the State.

He said, the Jharpokharia-Keonjhar-Sambalpur NH-49 passing through Mayurbhanj district is not in a traffic-worthy condition.

“Many public complaints have been received in this regard,” Chief Minister informed the Union Minister.

He added that no improvement has been taken up so far on the Hatgamahria-Benisagar up to junction with NH-49 near Singada passing through Mayurbhanj district though it has been declared in principle as an NH from 17 February, 2016.

For last two years this major connectivity has turned as a death trap as road accidents have risen in this track.

He also urged Gadkari to consider declaration of the Bhadrak-Anandpur-Thakurmunda-Karanjia-Singada (13 5km), Shergarh-Nilgiri-Kaptipada-Baripada-W.B Border (110km), Rairangpur-Bisoi-Bangiriposi-Kalabadia (54km), Jashipur-Champua (70km) passing through Mayurbhanj district as National Highway.

“I would request for your immediate intervention in the above matters,” Chief Minister Urged.
