In Odisha during last five years Seven Lakh farmers have been benefited and have become self sufficient through goat rearing, poultry rearing, dairy farming etc.

This was revealed in the State level Workshop on " Enhancing Farmers Income" through upgrading animal resources- Role of Veterinary Officers organised at Rabindra Mandap, Bhubaneswar on 1 November.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik inaugurated the workshop as Chief Guest.  
Mr.Patnaik expressed in his speech that, about 90 Percent of farmers of the state belong to small and marginal category where livestock sector provides a great support for their sustainable livelihood of the poor farmers.

Secretary FARD Vishal Gagan attended as the Guest of Honour and in his welcome address expressed that, now 541 veterinary dispensaries and 3239 livestock aid centres are functioning in the state for providing animal health care services such as treatment, Artificial Insemination, vaccination, deworming etc.

Aditya Prasad Padhi Chief Secretary, R Balakrishnan; Development Commissioner, Gagan Kumar Dhal, Agriculture Production Commissioner and Saurabh Garg, Principal Secretary, Agriculture and Farmers' Empowerment graced the occasion.

Now Government have given due importance for implementing various new schemes under ARD sector, said Chief Minister.

While  Odisha is an Agricultural State, where more than 70 Percent farmers get their livelihood from agriculture and allied sector. In allied sector, animal resources play an important role not only for socio-economic up-liftment of rural poor but also provide good source of animal protein such as milk, egg & meat.

Veterinary Doctors play an important role in providing animal health care services such as treatment, vaccination, artificial insemination, fodder cultivation etc. for enhancing farmer's income through up-gradation of animal resources.

On this occasion, Chief Minister Mr.Patnaik distributed appointment orders to 240 newly recruited Veterinary doctors selected through OPSC against 376 new Veterinary Officer Posts created last year and congratulated them. 
He also distributed appointment orders to 39 newly recruited Assistant Agriculture Officers.

Simultaneously, he also released video clips on poultry farming, Dairy Farming and Goat farming along with a Logo on "Pranidhanara Urnati - Rajyara Pragati".
 
Minister, Agriculture & Farmers empowerment, Fisheries & ARD, Panchayatiraj & Drinking Water, Pradeep Maharathi attended the Workshop as the Guest of Honour and deliberated that milk, meat & egg production have been augmented through implementation of various new schemes under ARD sector and expected that this workshop will be very much helpful to the 240 newly appointed Veterinary doctors towards rendering service for the farmers of the state.

Ratnakar Rout, Director, AH & VS, Odisha proposed vote of thanks. A technical discussion was held by the senior Veterinary officers where 240 newly appointed veterinary doctors, around 300 women SHG members and other Departmental officers attended the workshop.
