Odisha Government has urged Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) to release Second Instalment of State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) immediately to undertake relief and restoration activities.

Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi has written to Union Secretary Home Affairs, Rajiv Gauba in this regard today.

Mr.Padhi has said that the State faced the ravage of Very Severe Cyclonic Storm ‘Titli’ and associated floods as well as landslide during 11-13 October, 2018.

The State Government has taken prompt measures for relief and rescue as well as repair and restoration of the damaged infrastructure out of the funds available in SDRF, adhering to the norms of expenditure out of State Disaster Response Fund and National Disaster Response Fund, prescribed by Government of India.

In the meantime, the State Government has submitted a Preliminary Memorandum to the Union Government, while seeking Rs.2014.09 Crore of Central Assistance, informed Mr.Padhi.

He said that Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has also requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi for an Interim Relief of Rs.1000 Crore to undertake the relief measures.

Meanwhile, the funds available in the SDRF of the State have almost been exhausted for relief and restoration works.

Crop assessment is under process to provide Agriculture Input Subsidy to the farmers having crop loss of 33 Percent and more due to recent cyclone followed by floods.

That, apart, House Building Assistance is also to be provided to the people whose houses have been damaged, pointed out he.

Therefore, looking into the pressing need for funds, Chief Secretary Mr.Padhi for releasing Second Instalment of SDRF of Rs.389.25 Crore due, 2018, in advance to the State of Odisha, which will help the State Government to undertake relief and restoration works, said he.
