108 Gets Fleet Boost

With 42 new 108 ambulances have been added to the fleet of 108 Emergency Medical Ambulance Service in the State, it got a boost of the strength, which reached 500 today.

Pratap Jena, Minister Health & Family Welfare has flagged of the 108 ambulances here today .

Mr.Jena told that in order to further improve the performance of Emergency Ambulance Service in the State, particularly in tribal districts, and to meet the increasing demand for this service, the Government of Odisha through exclusive State
Budget funding have made provision for additional 92 Ambulances under the 108 fleet.

Secretary Health & FW Paramod kumar Meherda , MD NHM Salini Pandit , MD OSMC Archana Pattanaik , senior officers and executives of 108 ambulance Service provider were present during the Flagg of Ceremony .

The 108 Emergency Medical Ambulance Service was launched in the State on 5March 2013 and presently is operated with a fleet of 470 vehicles covering all 30 districts, providing emergency medical service, free of cost to the people. 

The fleet has 414 ‘Basic Life Support’ (BLS) and 56 ‘Advanced Life Support’ (ALS) ambulances.

In addition to the 108 Ambulance Service, the State has in position a fleet of 500 ambulances under 102 Ambulance Service for transportation of pregnant mothers and sick infants.

Till date, over 38 lakh people of the State have benefited from the ambulance service. This intervention has been instrumental in significant reductions in both the Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) and the Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR) in the State.

The State Government has also provided for up gradation of 28 Basic Life Support (BLS) ambulances to Advanced Life Support (ALS) ambulances, out of the State fund, to strengthen the existing ambulance fleet.

The Government of Odisha has made a budget provision of 90 crores (over a period of five years) for these additional ambulances , Mr.Jena added.

Chief Minister has dedicated 92 additional ambulances to the people of the State on 23 December 2017.

Out of these 92 additional ambulances, 24 ambulances were flagged off by the Chief Minister on 23 December, 2017.

And 26 ambulances were flagged off on 12 July 2018 by the Minister, Health & Family Welfare, Mr.Jena..

 Another 42 ambulances are flagged off on 10 October, by the Minister Health & Family Welfare.
