Heavy Rains To Hit

While Odisha has received surplus rainfall during the Monsoon Period of 1 June to 7 August, there is forecast of heavy to very heavy Rainfall in next 48 hours, officials say.


The cumulative average rainfall of the State from 1June till 7August of 2018 comes to a surplus of Five Percent over the long term average rainfall.
Bishnupada Sethi Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) reviewed the situation here today and it came to fore that due to heavy rains River Subarnarekha is flowing marginally above danger level at Jamsolaghat and receding.
However, the river level at Rajghat is below the danger level and all other major rivers are flowing below danger level.
Eight districts have received surplus rainfall of more than 19 Percent whereas 16 more districts have received normal rainfall during the period from 1 June to 7 August cumulatively.
Average rainfall of remaining Six districts Angul, Sundergarh, Deogarh, Nawarangpur, Balangir and Nuapada districts has remained deficit by -20.2%, -20.5%, -21.1%, -21.5%, -30.7% & -35.4% respectively.
Average rainfall of the state recorded on 7 August 2018 for the last 24 hours is 34.2 mm.
Six districts have received average rainfall of above 50 mm. The districts are Puri- 134.9 mm, Khordha- 95.0 mm, Cuttack- 77.4 mm, Jagatsinghpur- 68.4 mm, Kendrapara- 63.0 mm and Nayagarh- 60.2 mm.
 
All 30 districts received more or less rainfall during past 24 hours, said a senior official in SRC Office.
 
Puri Sadar Block has recorded rainfall of more than 300 mm. 11 more Blocks have recorded rainfall of more than 100 mm.

Taking into account the Block-wise rainfall data, 94 Blocks have received surplus rainfall of more than 19 Percent.
161 Blocks received normal rainfall, while 43 Blocks received deficit rainfall and 15 Blocks received severe deficit rainfall of Minus 19 to Minus 59 Percent.
And only Block Muribahal under Bolangir district has experienced scanty rainfall less than 59 Percent during the period.
There will be rain and thunder-shower is likely to occur at most places over Odisha.
 Next 48 hours, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Rayagada, Gajapati, Nawarangpur, Ganjam, Koraput, Malkangiri, Balangir, Boudh, Cuttack, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Dhenkanal and Angul.
Heavy rainfall is likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of rest Odisha.
Rain and Thunder-Shower is likely to occur at most places over Odisha.
Heavy rainfall is likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Nawarangpur, Malkangiri and Koraput.
On 9 August, Thunder-Shower is likely to occur at many places over Odisha, said Deputy Relief Commissioner Pravat Mohapatra.
