Pat For Gurupriya

Union Government has appreciated the opening of a major bridge over River Gurupriya, given access to Cut- Off Area, which was Hot Bed of Maoists.

And the Government of India has also lauded commendable operational success of Odisha Police against the Left wing Extremists (LWE)s during First Six Months of 2018.

During January to June in 2018, Odisha Police has achieved creditable Anti-Maoist Operational success as per half Yearly Review made by MHA.

Union Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs, Rajiv Gauba in his letter to the State Government has said that Half Yearly Review made by Government of India on anti-Maoist Operations reveal that there is considerable reduction in causalities of Security Forces and Civilians.

Secondly opening of Bridge on Gurupriya has provided opportunity for the State Administration to reclaim the Cut Off Area and scale up developmental activities in the Red Zone.

In fact opening of Gurupriya Bridge has given a deadly blow to the Maoist Menace in Malkangiri and Borders of Odisha and Andhra Pradesh, experts feel.

Mr.Gauba said that “Commendable Operational Success has been achieved during first half of 2018 is needed to be maintained during next half of 2018.”

The process of reclaiming the Cut-Off Area should receive a massive impetus with opening of bridge on River Gurupriya and there should be radical shift in both Security and Development Strategy in the area.

While State Government has chalked out massive developmental strategies for the Cut Off Area, State Police has also chalked out deployment strategy, said sources.

While Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi has advised ACS Home Asit Triapthy and DGP R P Sharma to chalk out Security Strategy for the Cut Off Area, both are busy in making a radical shift in Security Force Deployment in the area opened due to the major bridge on River Gurupriya.

Mr.Padhi has also asked ACS Home Mr.Tripathy and DGP Dr.Sharma to enhance Cooperation and Joint Operations with Andhra Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, said sources.

In the meantime, ACS Home Mr.Tripathy has urged MHA to restore One CoBRA Battalion, which is needed for Cut Off Area, said official sources.

This Battalion was raised in Sunabeda and CRPF authorities have taken away for deployment in Chhattisgarh.

Now Maoists are worried due to opening of bridge over River Gurupriya and after opening they have opposed the move by placing pamphlets on various places during celebrations of Martyrs’ Week.

So they are moving out to the Borders of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha and Joint Operations by both neighboring States will result in more elimination of these Left Wing Extremists (LWE)s pointed out a senior Top Cop engaged in Anti-Maoist Operations.

Similarly, Maoists are trying to enlarge their geographical coverage in Angul and Boudh and for which MHA has listed both the districts as Security Related Expenditure (SRE) Districts.

So both these two districts will receive financial support of MHA to handle the Maoist Menace, said an official.
