Ex-Gratia For Kin

Malkangiri District Magistrate Manish Agarwal said the authorities have today handed over Rs 5 lakh to the family of a Class X girl student who committed suicide three days back in Malkangiri district.

Tahsildar of Kalimela, Sanat Nayak, handed over a cheque for Rs 5 lakh as ex-gratia to the family members of the minor girl at MPV-29 village.

Earlier Chief Minister Navin Patnaik had announced the ex-gratia following recommendation by the District Administration, he said.

The body of the girl was found in a pool of blood in the computer room of a Government-run Residential school at Sikhapalli on Thursday night.

She allegedly committed suicide after being sexually assaulted by the headmaster, police said.

The Headmaster of the school was arrested on 4 August on the basis of a note found in a notebook of the deceased.

Her note accused the Headmaster of being involved in sexual assault of minor girls in the school, sources said.
