Early Warning On Fast Track


Bishnupada Sethi, Special Relief Commissioner and Managing Director, Odisha State Disaster Management Authority said in order to ensure dissemination of disaster early warning to the people at the last mile ‘Early Warning Dissemination System’ is implemented on Fast Track Mode.


Mr.Sethi said that the Government of Odisha is implementing the Project ‘Early Warning Dissemination System’ in 22 Blocks of 6 coastal districts of Odisha to Various communication equipment has been setup at 162 locations under this project.

A one-day training workshop was organised at the State level today to orient various stakeholders on the use, management and proper upkeep of the communication equipment.

Mr.Sethi presided over the workshop. Among others, Additional District Magistrates, Sub-Collector & District Emergency Officers of six coastal districts, Block Development Officers of 22 coastal blocks, Tahasildar, IICs of concerned police stations, Sarapanches of the concerned Gram Panchayats, Secretaries of Shelter level committees, Teachers of concerned schools, Officials/Representatives of Fish Landing Centres and other representatives participated in the workshop.
 
The officers of the office of the Special Relief Commissioner and Odisha State Disaster Management Authority conducted the workshop and provided necessary training to the participants.

The Project Manager of the executing agency L & T and his team explained about the technicalities and proper use of the equipment.
Senior Officers, Sarpanches & other representatives from the districts participating in the discussion gave their valuable suggestions for effective implementation of the project.

It was decided to organise required training for the people of the concerned area to make them aware on the use of the equipment, interpretation of the warning messages and advisories in the event of any disaster, said Deputy Special Relief Commissioner, Pravat Kumar Mahapatra.
