Model Schools In 314 Blocks

The State Government has decided to open one Odisha Adrasha Vidyalaya in each of the 314 blocks with an aim to create 25,000 meritorious students each year in rural areas with English Medium education.

Principal Secretary Shool and Mass Education, Pradipta Kumar Mahapatra sources said that, as many as 1,305 teachers have been appointed in 160 OAVs across Odisha.

Besides, advertisement for recruitment of 1,704 more teachers for 190 OAVs has already been issued and the hiring process is on.  The district collectors have been authorized to engage non-teaching staff in such schools.

Official sources stated that as many as 92 Junior Clerk-cum-Accountant and 324 Class-IV staff have been engaged in 160 OAVs functioning in the State.

It added that a total of 56,753 students have been enrolled in the 190 Odisha Adarsha Vidyalayas (OAVs).

Besides, the release stated that as many as 10,000 students are receiving merit scholarship on time and the annual State Budget for the purpose is Rs 42. 9 crore. As many as 7,500 students are receiving scholarship for excellent performance in mathematics and the annual State Budget for the purpose is Rs 25 crore. 

Under the new initiatives of the department, Mukhya Mantri Medha Bruti scholarship will be given to students who achieve highest marks in Class X Odisha Board Examination. 

As many as 100 students of each block, 100 students of each Municipal Corporation, 50 students from each Municipality and 20 students of each NAC  totaling 35,440 students will receive this scholarship at Rs 5,000 per head.

The department will also initiate Odia Bhasa Bruti scholarship under which students achieving highest marks in Odia language in Class X Odisha Board Examination will be given financial incentives. As many as 10 students of each block, 10 students of each Municipal Corporation, five from each Municipality and two of each NAC totaling 3,544 students will receive this scholarship at Rs 5,000 per head.

Schools achieving highest result in Class X  Odisha Board Examination will receive Quality Award. 

Three Schools of each block, 2 of each Municipal Corporation, one school from each Municipality and NAC  totaling 1,060 will receive this award at Rs1 lakh each. Parents of 10 best students of the districts shall be felicitated and awarded cash incentive of Rs 3,000 each. A total of 300 parents will be felicitated. In total, An amount of Rs 30.99 crore has been provided in the budget 2018-19 for the purpose. 

In a bid to increase enrolment, retention and reduce drop out in secondary level of school education, bi-cycles will be given to students. To enhance rate of transition from secondary to higher secondary level under the scheme, each student will be given a sum of Rs 2,600 which will be transferred electronically to his/her bank account for purchase of a bicycle All students, boys and girls, irrespective of social category of class IX in government and government-aided secondary schools including Adarsha Vidyalayas as well as Madrasa and Sanskrit Tols are covered under the scheme The State Government has taken initiative on mission mode for teachers’ recruitment for linguistic minority and functioning of Teachers Training School for Linguistic Minority, the release stated. 

The department sources said that as many as 18,412 Ganasikhyaks have been regularized across the State. As many as 24,807 regular primary teachers posts have been created to regularize all eligible Sikshya Sahayaks. Besides, the nomenclature of the Sikhya Sahayaks has been changed as Junior Teacher (Contractual). All Block Grant Teachers have been given GIA as per GIA Order 2017. 

The department has implemented Integrated Legal Management System to track 64,000 cases in electronic format. All schools have been supplied Text Books on a record time.  In view of catching the attention of old students, a new initiative 'Mo School Abhiyan' has been launched in the State. It will help involve students in developmental activities of their institutions where they have studied.
