GST Returns Simplified

Simplification of Goods and Service Tax (GST) return filing process was approved at the 27th meeting of GST Council today. 

The meeting was held under the chairmanship of Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley.
Odisha Finance and Excise Minister Sashi Bhusan Behera along with Principal Secretary, Finance Tuhinkant Pandey, Special Secretary Finace Ashok Kumar Meena participated in the deliberations.
Commissioner Commercial Tax Saswat Mishra, Additional Secretary, Finance Nidhi Kumar Routray and Officer in-charge GST Cell  Sahadev Sahu, attended it via video conferencing at the State Secretariat. 
Imposition of Cess on Sugar, incentive for Digital Payment and converting GSTN into government owned company were discussed in the meeting.
Besides, revenue collection under GST was also discussed. It was revealed that an amount of Rs 1,03,000 crore has been collected under GST in the month of April 2018 which is nearly 15 pc higher than the average monthly collection of around Rs 90,000 crore in  the year 2017-18.
No decision was taken on imposition of Cess on Sugar and providing incentives for Digital Payment.
It was decided in the meeting that separate committees will be formed for discussion on these matters.
As per recommendation of the committees, the decision will be taken in the next GST Council Meeting.
The GST Council approved the proposals for simplification of GST Return Filing. After the framing of law by the Law Committee constituted under GST Council, the GST Return Filing will be implemented in a phased manner.
