Rao New Addl Director CBI

1986 batch IPS officer M. Nageswara Rao has been promoted to the rank of Additional Director of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).


An Odisha Cadre Top Cop, he was Joint Director CBI Southern Zone, Chennai, where he served the Premier Police Organization efficiently.
On his promotion, Mr.Rao will be based at CBI Headquarters, New Delhi and will be in Charge of Several States, including Odisha, West Bengal, Entire North Eastern States, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir.
Crucially what is important that he will be supervising Chit Fund Scams and Sardha Scam in Odisha and West Bengal.
Both the States are facing tough time due to Chit Fund Scams
Mr.Rao is known as a tough top cop, efficient no non-sense Administrator with a humane touch and an institution builder.
 
He is recipient of President's Police Medal for Meritorious Service, President's Police Medal for Distinguished Service, Special Duty Medal and Odisha Governor's Medal.
 
Besides being SP of four districts namely Mayurbhanj, Nabarangapur, Bargarh and Jagatsinghpur, he was also SP, Railways at Rourkela and Cuttack as well as SP of Crime Branch.
 
He was the first officer in Odisha to use the DNA finger printing technique in crime investigation in detecting an unknown rape in Jagatsinghpur district in 1996, which ended in conviction for seven long years.
 
His anti-insurgency works in Manipur state as DIG (Operations) of CRPF earned him lot of appreciation. As IGP, CRPF, Eastern Sector, Kolkata he personally led Lalgarh operations against the Naxals in 2008.
 
He was instrumental in establishing CoBRA Battalion of CRPF and sanction of 2nd Group Centre of CRPF at Sambalpur. As IG CRPF Mr.Rao played a key role in diffusing tension in riot hit Kandhamal in 2008.
 
As Head of Fire Service he completely transformed this moribund organization in to one of the best in India.
 
For the outstanding work of Fire Service under his leadership during Phailin cyclone in 2013, and Hudhud cyclone Odisha and Andhra Pradesh in 2014 the First CM’s Award for Excellence in Governance and Innovation in Public Service carrying Citation and Rs. 5 lakhs cash were awarded to Mr.Rao.
