LVPEI Eye Centre Opens

L V Prasad Eye Institute’s 18th Secondary Eye Care Centre is helping out the people.

This facility is boosting the healthcare facilities of Keonjhar and nearby districts with provision of modern equipment and technology, feels Minister Health & Family Welfare, Pratap Jena.
Dr Taraprasad Das, Vice Chairman, L V Prasad Eye Institute, “The centre in Keonjhar will look at the general and specifically eye health of people working and living in mining areas of Keonjhar.
The LVPEI Keonjhar centre will also participate in the Universal Eye Health program initiated by the Government of Odisha.

Minister Mr.Jena inaugurated the Centre, while Minister School and Mass Education Badri Narayan Patra, MP Sakuntala Laguri, local MLA Abhiram Naik were among those present.
Notably, noted eye surgeon late Dr Bijayananda Patnaik and wife Dr Rajinder Kalsi Patnaik had gifted the land for setting up the Eye Care Centre.
The Combat Blindness International, USA supported the construction of the hospital and equipment through a generous gift from the Jack Deloss Taylor Charitable Trust, USA.
Keonjhar district is one of the five most scheduled areas of Odisha and to make quality eye care accessible and affordable, LVPEI along with its partners, and local support from the community, has established a comprehensive eye care facility in the district of Keonjhar.
Additionally, low vision rehabilitation services will also be provided at the centre through its centre-based and community-based approach. Low Vision Rehabilitation is an integral part of the LVPEI’s pyramidal model of care delivery.
Going forward, primary eye care centers will be established in the vicinity of this secondary centre.
Under this program, the centre will conduct various school eye care and general eye screening programs. We will complement the local and Government health system.”
