Prasad Plays Maha Card

With River Mahanadi Water dispute turning to be a huge political issue, Pradesh Congress President Prasad Harichandan lately tried to gain political mileage by playing River Card.

A day after All India Congress Committee (AICC) Rahul Gandhi stated that there would not be any changes in party’s states’ leadership, Odisha Congress Chief Mr. Harichandan today urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to intervene in the Mahanadi water dispute.
Mr.Harichandan was quiet for quite some time due to uncertainty prevailed over his continuance as PCC Chief.
Today OPCC President, addressing Media Men here said that the Chhattisgarh Government should be asked to stop construction of barrage on River Mahanadi immediately.
Mr.harichandan received a fresh lease of life as on Saturday AICC President Rahul Gandhi had said that the Presidents of All Pradesh Congress Committees, Regional Congress Committees and Territorial Congress Committees will continue in their posts after the organizational election unless some decision is taken to replace them.
Several senior leaders in the state had been pitching for Congress Veteran, Niranjan Patnaik as PCC Chief. Mr.Patnaik went to Delhi and returned empty handed today.
With discontentment swelling within rank and file of the grand old party, the members moved to Rahul Gandhi several times seeking leadership change.
Mr.Gandhi held closed-door discussions with state leaders in groups as well as one-on-one, giving rise to speculation that Mr.Harichandan’s ouster was a matter of time.
However, Mr.Harichandan, a protégé of Congress Stalwart Jairam Ramesh is going strong.
So when asked whether he would continue to remain the President of OPCC, he  said the party leaders stand united and will fight together against BJD and BJP in Odisha.
Meanwhile, former OPCC President Jaydev Jena today said that stern action will be taken against trouble makers in the party.
“Prasad Harichandan will continue to be the OPCC President. The AICC and President Rahul Gandhi have taken the decision. Hence, all are bound to respect the decision,” said Mr.Jena.
Since long the Congress leaders, including the party’s Lawmakers have been demanding for the change in leadership and had met Rahul Gandhi on the issue on several occasions following the party’s dismal performance in the last year’s panchayat elections.
Arguing that the party had been losing the ground in Odisha under the leadership of Prasad Harichandan, party MLAs led by Congress Legislature Party leader Narasingha Mishra had met Mr.Gandhi in New Delhi at least twice seeking the removal of Mr.Harichandan.

Now the Lawmakers are left red faced over the announcement of AICC.
