Naveen Lauds Reserve Bank

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has congratulated Reserve Bank of India for the move to feature Konark Wheel on new Rs.10 Note.

Mr.Patnaik expressed his happiness on micro-blogging site Twitter over Reserve Bank of India (RBI)’s announcement of featuring Konark Wheel on new Rs 10 denomination notes.

“Filled with pride that the rich cultural heritage of #Odisha finds place in Nation’s currency. #Konark Wheel, the timeless symbol of our art and sculpture, is depicted in the new Rs 10 currency note. Congratulate @RBI for incorporating the world famous Sun Temple motif in the note.”

Notably, the Reserve Bank of India will shortly issue Rs 10 denomination banknotes in the Mahatma Gandhi (New) Series, bearing signature of  Urjit R. Patel, Governor, Reserve Bank of India, said a RBI press release on 5 January.

RBI has come out with a new design chocolate brown ten rupee note.

The new note will have the same height of 63mm as the current ten rupee note but the width will be 123mm - slightly lesser than the 137mm width of the existing note.

Besides the color and the size, another main difference is that the reverse of the note will carry a motif of the Konark Sun Temple.

The existing ten rupee note carries the image of fauna of India - rhinoceros, elephant and tiger.

However, all the banknotes in the denomination of Rs 10 issued by the Reserve Bank in the earlier series will continue to be legal tender, said RBI.
