Police Care For Seniors


With Twin City Police completes a decade of its establishment, a web-based application has been launched to help out the senior citizens staying in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack in times of distress was today
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today launched the application, which will enable senior citizens to enroll themselves under Senior Citizen Security Cell (SCSC) system of the twin city Commissionerate Police.
The Chief Minister launched the application at a function to mark the 10th raising day of Commissionerate Police here today. 
ACS Home, Asit Tripathy, DGP R P Sharma, Police Commissioner, Y B Khurania and other Top Cops were present.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr.Patnaik said, "I hope the online registration will immensely benefit the senior citizens. I advised the police to serve people with empathy, compassion and give top most priority to women, children and senior citizens".
He advised the Twin City Police to pay special attention towards the grievances of senior citizens, women and children.
The Chief Minister said the Police should work for providing prompt solution towards the grievances of senior citizens, women and children.
“In the past ten years, the Commissionerate Police has achieved many successes and faced challenges during the same period”, he said.
ACS Home, Mr.Tripathy said SCSC system is one of the State Government's senior citizen-friendly initiatives in Odisha.
 As per the new online registration system, users are required to browse the common application portal of the state government (lokaseba-odisha.in).
Police said link of the portal will also be uploaded on the home page of the Commissionerate Police.
Police Commissioner  Mr.Khurania said the Commissionerate Police recently announced to set up two counselling-cum-helpline centres, one each in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, for elderly people to address their social problems.
"We have given a proposal to the social security and empowerment of persons with disabilities (SSEPD) department to provide funds for creation of the two helpline centres".
The SCSC system, which was introduced in a handful of police stations here in 2009, now covers all the 20 police stations in Bhubaneswar and 18 in Cuttack.
The system was introduced in view of crimes against elderly persons in the twin cities in the past. The cells so far registered over 6,836 senior citizens in Bhubaneswar and 4,499 in Cuttack.
Nodal and Assistant Nodal Officers of the cells are assigned to visit the houses of registered persons regularly, ascertain the physical security aspects of their houses and advise them to install protective grill fencing, door chains, alarm bell and magic eye in their houses.
