Oram Asks Smart Babu

Union Minister of Tribal Affairs Jual Oram today urged for dedicated officer for Smart City Project of Rourkela.

Mr.Oram today urged the Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik in a letter in this regard.
Union Minister rued that there has been no headway in the Rourkela Smart City Project owing to shortage of officials.

“It seems that the State Government is not paying any attention for implementation of this project due to which an officer of ADM rank, who is already burdened with two more portfolios, has been given charge of this prestigious project”, he said.
In fact 2013 batch IAS Monisha Banerjee is ADM Rourkela. She holds the post of Administrator  Rourkela Municipal Corporation (RMC).
And recently Ms.Banerjee has been assigned the charge of CEO Rourkela Smart City Project.
At present Rourkela Muncipal Corporation has over 700 vacancies but the authorities have not taken adequate steps to fill them as a result of which the civic body’s works have been badly hampered, alleged Mr.Oram.
The Union Minister said the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has been provided with sufficient manpower and headed by senior officers of sufficient work experience to execute the work within stipulated timeline.

“I fail to understand this kind of stepmotherly attitude of the State government for Rourkela in particular and Sundargarh district in general”, he added.
Mr.Oram reminded the Chief Minister that in the last monsoon session of Odisha Legislative Assembly, the Minister of Urban Development had stated that an Additional Secretary rank officer would manage Smart City Projects and Municipal Corporations.
“But the State Government has failed on this front and posted a Junior Officer at the helm of Rourkela Smart City Limited.
People of Rourkela strongly feel that the absence of a full time senior officer will ultimately delay the implementation of Rourkela Smart City project”, Mr.Oram pointed out.
