Tribals Feel Ignored

Tribals from across the State feel alienated as the State Government is allegedly ignoring their cause and supporting the Industrial Houses for expansion of their empire.

Tribal people from all over the State today congregated at Kalinga Nagar in Jajpur district to observe the 12th anniversary of Police Firing in which 14 innocent tribals were killed in 2006.
Various Tribal groups from Jagatsingpur, Keonjhar, Niyamgiri and Puri , and Chhattisgarh turned up where the locals are opposing land acquisition for industrialization and expressed their whole hearted solidarity for the cause of Tribals.
Intersetingly both Anti and Pro Groups joined together to observe the Black Day.
A Rally was taken out from Champakoila, the spot where the firing took place, to Veer bhumi, the crematorium and offered tributes to the people who laid their lives while protesting land acquisition for  Steel Complex.

“We are jointly observing the Sahid Divas today unlike previous years. So, it will be different one,” Rabindra Jarika, secretary of Bisthapan Birodhi Janamanch (BBJM) said. Other than local tribal, various groups from with BBJM, which is spearheading the anti industrialization movement in the area.
"We won't tolerate any torture on innocent tribals. There should not be any industry at the cost of tribals and their livelihood. Our fight against industrialization will continue till the government changes its decision to set up industries on farm land.
“14 of our fellow men sacrificed their lives for tribals’ cause. We are ready to die even en masse, but will not spare even an inch of land for industries," said Rabindra, Secretary BBJM in the meeting which was attended by at least 8,000 people.

"Ruled by Biju Janata Dal, Odisha remained a highly lawless State with high incidence of atrocities against the tribals , the indigenous peoples. Arbitrary violation of the right to life is an integral part of maintenance of law and order especially in respect of any unrest involving tribal people", said Prasanta Paikray of Posco Pratirodhaka Sangram Samiti (PPSS).
Security was beefed up in view of the huge gathering.”We have made elaborate security arrangements in view of huge congregation of tribals. Adequate security forces have been deployed to tackle any possible eventuality. We have appealed to the tribal outfits to observe the day peacefully,” a senior Top Cop said.

The tribal pressure group alleged that they are yet to get justice even though the incident had taken place 12 years ago.
On December 14, 2017 Justice PK Mohanty Commission’s Inquiry Report was tabled in State Legislative Assembly.
The Report revealed that the incident took place due to frustration among people who did not get adequate compensation following displacement and land acquisition.
