ILS On Health Study

 The institute of Life Sciences (ILS) will conduct a research on various diseases affecting the tribal population in State and prescribe solution.

ILS has undertaken research in association with the Health and Family Welfare Department (DoHFW) and various research institutes under the Government of India to study the causes of diseases which often turn epidemic.

Strategy will be chalked out for curing the diseases in the tribal zones and  the proposal will be sent to both to State Government and the Centre regarding the research, ILS sources said.

Notably, the tribal communities in the remote parts of the State are deprived of proper medical facilities as a result of which several simple ailments turn epidemic.

In several cases, genetic disorders are also found spreading in the tribal communities.  Sometimes, the tribal population is detected with the diseases like malaria, thalassemia and sickle cell.

The Study will be conducted on 52 tribal groups living in Odisha, said the sources.

There are specific diseases found in some tribal groups that are spreading to their next generation children.

A sample survey will be conducted in the tribal regions in Western and Northern parts of Odisha as well as Kalahandi, Koraput, Malkangiri, Rayagada, Phulbani, Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar districts.

The Strategy as to how to control the disease will be prepared on basis of the sample survey. The method will also be applied in case of identifying the deadly disease like cancer in the tribal communities, sources sadi.

The research will be carried out in association with Regional Medical Research Centre here, Bhubaneswar AIIMS, SCB Medical College & Hospital and Capital Hospital using advance technology for which a laboratory will be set up on premises of the ILS.

The State Government will provide all support to ILS for research, sources in DoHFW said.
