Team Blames BJD Gov

BJP Central Team that visited Bargarh district today blamed the State Government for not taking appropriate steps to curb the pest attack menace.

“It is really a fact that the there has been major crop loss in the rain fed and irrigated areas of the district and also in the Hirakud Command Area. But Odisha Government has not taken adequate precautions to save crop and the farmers,” said the Team Members who visited several areas and families of some farmers who committed suicide in the wake of pest attack in the district.

Saffron Team included Sabitribai Thakur MP, Om Prakash Yadav MP, National general secretary of the BJP Kissan Morcha P Sugnakar Rao, Secretary BJP Kissan Morcha Sambhu Kum, senior leaders of the party from western Odisha and MLA Pradip Purohit.

“Why did the Government keep silent after knowing the pest problem is still a mystery for us. Really, we fail to understand the intention of the government in Odisha,” said Mr.Thakur.

She said the people of Western Odisha and the Hirakud command area solely depend on agriculture.  “In such circumstances, taking casual view to farmers’ problem is nothing but an unpardonable offence,” she added.

She said the team will submit its report to party’s national president Amit Shah who will then take up the matter with Union Agriculture Minister.

“Government at the Centre will do its best to help the Odisha farmers,” said Mr.Yadav.

The team went to Chamarpada of Sohela, Jaring village of Bijepur, Dhaunrakhenda of Barpali, Kalapani, Saranda, Nuakhairpali and discussed with the farmers about their problems during the current season.

It also visited the houses of the farmers who committed suicide due to crop loss and Chakada Poka (brown plant hopper) attack.

They also visited the paddy fields of different villages to witness the extent of damage during the current kharif season for drought and pest attack.
