State Favors Share Croppers

With Odisha Government set to distribute over Rs.150 Crore of Agriculture Input Subsidy to the farmers affected on account of crop loss due to pest attack,

Special Relief Commissioner Bishnupada Sethi has asked the Collectors to provide the same to actual cultivators including share croppers.

So for the first time the State Government has recognized the role of share croppers in Farm Sector.
SRC Mr.Sethi has issued instructions here today to the District Collectors detailing out the modalities for payment of subsidies to the affected farmers.
While the payment will be made through e-Mode, SRC Mr.Sethi has asked the Collectors to pay the subsidy to the actual cultivators including share croppers.
Mr.Sethi has said that Agriculture Input Subsidy will be made through e-Transfer to the bank and postal accounts of the beneficiaries.
However there has to be field verification and Village Level Committees are needed to be reconstituted by including three members of share croppers.

Previsouly it was instructed that Village Level Committees will be formed to hear the objections by taking the list of affected farmers prepared by the Department of Revenue & Disaster management and Department of Agriculture & Farmers’ Empowerment.
Now the representation from the share croppers in the VLC will be there, so that the real cultivators’s interest will be protected, feel officials.
Procedure will be same in case of Deity land under cultivation by share croppers or lesses, said SRC in his letter.
In respect of land allottred under the Forest Rights Act, for which title has been issued, the cultivators shall be enumerated for payment of input subsidy.
However, Government land under unauthorized occupation shall not be taken into consideration for enumeration for payment of subsidy, informed SRC.
State Government has announced that affected farmers in the irrigated areas will get Rs.13,500 Per Acre and in non irrigated areas, subsidy will be Rs.6,800 per Acre.
Over 1.70 Lakh hecatre of farm land  has been affected due to pest attack, said sources.
