Pradhan Blames Patnaik

 Union Minister for petroleum & Natural Gas Dharmendra Pradhan today held the BJD Government responsible for farmer suicides in Odisha.

Farmers are committing suicide due to crop loss caused by pest attack and he claimed it used the tragedy to announce package instead of taking timely steps to prevent such incidents.

"The BJD Government in Odisha is not only inefficient, corrupt and insensitive but is also responsible for suicide by farmers hit by crop loss due to pest attack," the Union Minister alleged at a Media meet held here today.

Mr.pradhan accused the State Government of having failed to take timely action to prevent the extreme steps by distressed farmers.
He alleged that the "insensitive" government waited for a situation to announce package keeping an eye on the by-election for Bijepur Assembly seat.
In fact, the BJD government is first pushing the farmers into miseries and then pretending to provide succor to them, he alleged.
BJD Government is "anti-farmer," alleged the BJP leader and said though the BJD Government had announced that Rs 100 would be given as bonus to the farmers over and above the minimum support price (MSP) for paddy long ago, it is yet to become a reality.

The Union Minister said several BJP-ruled states including Chhattisgarh are providing such bonus, while in Odisha it remained only an announcement without being translated into action.

Union Minister alleged that the State Government for having failed to bring a new share cropper policy despite having made an announcement in this regard long back.
Mr.Pradhan said he has talked to the Union Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh regarding the situation in Odisha for taking timely and urgent  steps.
Mr.Pradhan blasted the State Agriculture
Minister Damodar Rout for saying that no compensation would be given to farmers who have burnt their pest-infected crops as this type of  statements hurting the farmers in distress.
