Congress Asks MSP Hike

Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) today demanded that the Centre fix Rs 3000 minimum support price for paddy and waive all crop loans of the farmers.


The party today organized a protest demonstration in Bargarh where a farmer ended his life on 1 November following pest attack on his crop.
 PCC President Prasad Harichandan told a Media Meet that the Union Government must raise the minimum support price for paddy at Rs 3000 and both the Centre and State Government waive all crop loans taken by the farmers.
Mr.Harichandan said the party will stage a demonstration in front of the office of Bargarh Collector to protest the death of farmer Brudaban Sahu in Kalapani village of the district.
He demanded input subsidy for sharecroppers also.
 Meanwhile, Bargarh District Congress today filed an FIR against the Agriculture Minister holding him responsible for the suicide of the Bargarh farmer, Brundaban Sahoo.
 “The farmer was scared due the statement of Agriculture Minister after he (Sahoo) set his field on fire,” the report alleged.
BJD Spokesperson Sameer Dash told Media that the damage is being assessed and State Government will take appropriate steps once the reports are in.
In the meantime, the Union Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram said that the Odisha Government should pay ex-gratia for the crop loss like other State Governments.
Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and other State Governments are providing ex-gratia to the hapless farmers for loss of crop, said sources.
