Parties Buying Peace

Governing BJD President Naveen Patnaik has apparently resolved the resentment within the party after he announced name of Rita Sahu as the party candidate for the ensuing by-polls in Bijepur Assembly segment.

The BJD rank and file in Bijepur was angry for Mr.Patnaik announcing name of Rita Sahuu, who is widow of the former Congress MLA Subal Sahu.

Subal was three-time Lawmaker from Bijepur and he had been successful in defeating the BJD candidates trice in a row in 2004, 2009 and 2014.
Mr.Patnaik held a meeting with BJD workers from Bijepur assembly segment, many of whom had expressed their resentment over the nomination of Rita Sahu, in the presence of dissident leader Pravat Aditya Mishra at Naveen Nivas.
Several party leaders were also present at the meeting.
“All misunderstandings have been dispelled after meeting the Chief Minister. We all support Rita Sahu’s candidature. We’re also happy about her joining BJD. Subal Sahu was like an elder brother and we had got a very good personal rapport. We’ll ensure the victory of Rita Sahu for the sake of BJD’s pride and prestige,” Mr.Mishra told reporters after the meeting.
Mr.Patnaik said: “I’ve just had a meeting with party workers from Bijepur MLA constituency. We discussed matters regarding the bye election. They were very optimistic.”

Meanwhile,  Dissident BJP leader and the party’s Bargarh District President Narayan Sahu, who had offered his resignation from his post in protest against the entry of former BJD MLA Ashok Panigrahi into the party, has shown signs of reconciliation.
Mr.Sahu said he would go by the party’s decision on candidature for the Bijepur by-poll.
He said this after having a talk with Union Petroleum minister Dharmendra Pradhan intervened in the matter.
“I have been with the BJP since last two decades and will continue to work for the larger interest of the party,” Mr.Sahu said.
