Unlike other IAS Officers, he tries to maintain low-profile and mingle with the common public.

Instead of sitting the cozy office of the District Magistrate and merely giving statements, he starts implementation of things by personally by moving to Gram Panchayats and connecting to people.
Meet Surendra Kumar Meena, a simple and unassuming District Magistrate of Mayurbhanj.
An IAS Officer of 2012 Batch, Mr.Meena who is known for hard-work and sincerity towards work, secured a place for himself in the good books of the people of the Tribal Zone by reaching out to them.
Born and brought up in a village of Rajasthan, Mr.Meena knows and understands the hardship of a poor Tribal, so he has made it a point to reach them at their Gram Panchayats.
Take for an example, a old tribal woman takes at least four hours to reach District Headquarters, Baripada from Thakurmunda.
So he reached Thakurmunda along with officials and meets the people in the Gram Panchayat to sort out the issues.
Mr.Meena has already covered 47 Gram Panchayat(GP)s out of 382 GPs in Mayurbhanj, which is one of the largest District in the State having 26 Blocks.
With the message that a Pro-People District Collector at helm, people are sending WhatsApp messages to Mr.Meena about their problems and those are attended.
Many children suffering from serious diseases are receiving support from District Administration as their applications are forwarded for release of funds support from Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (CMRF).
State Government has been liberal in releasing funds for the common and poor people from the CMRF.
Grievance Redressal Mechanism has received boost with Mr.Meena’s presence at the helm.
A Calendar for Joint Grievance Rederssal Meeting (JGRM) at Block level has been chalked out and for the Month of October it begins from 3 October at Baripada Block and on 30 October, JGRM will be held at Badsahi block.
During the Month of October at least five Blocks, Baripada, Rairangpur, Karanjia, Udala and Badasahi Blocks will be covered with JGRM.
All senior officials and officers from line departments will be in attendance for Grievance Redressal of the people, said sources in District Administration.
