IIM S Opts New Campus

Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Sambalpur will be shifting to its new temporary campus in Sambalpur University by January 2018 from current privately owned institution campus.

This decision was taken in the Board of Governors (BoG) Meet held here on 12 September.
IIM Sambalpur BoG chaired by Arundhati Bhattacharya, Chairman State Bank of India. Odisha Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi attended the meeting.

Sanjay Kumar Singh, Secretary Skill Development and Technical Education were also present along with other senior officials from Ministry of Human Resources Development, Ministry of Finance and others.

Director IIM Sambalpur, M P Jaiswal gave out details in the meeting of BoG.

For last two years IIM Sambalpur is running from its temporary campus of Silicon Institute of Technology (SIT), a privately run Institute.

With the decision of shifting IIM to Sambalpur University Campus, it will be easier to make investment for up-gradation and renovations in the Government Building rather than a privately owned set up, said sources.

Rs.79 Crore has been sanctioned for new temporary campus and the newly constructed Academic Building and Hostel inside the Sambalpur University Campus will be suitable for IIM to run its new temporary campus, BoG decided.

IIM Sambalpur and Sambalpur University will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for this purpose.

Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD) has approved the MoU and soon it will be inked, said sources.

While IIM, Sambalpur has decided to enhance its student annual intake of students from 60 to 120, this new facility will be much more helpful with new Academic Block, Two Hostels and other amenities for Auditorium also, said sources.

BoG also decided to recruit more Faculty Members as there is requirement, for which Director IIM has already started the process of recruitment.
