Vacancy Hits Colleges

 At least 47 Government Degree Colleges, out of a total 52 in State, are running without regular Principals, the State Legislative Assembly has been informed.

In reply to a question of BJP MLA Dillip Ray, Higher Education Minister Anant Das informed the Assembly recently that there are regular principals in only five such colleges.
Mr.Das further said that 720 lecturers and 1295 non-teaching staff posts are lying vacant in Government Degree Colleges across the State.

He also admitted that as many as 1339 lecturers posts are vacant in 488 category fully aided colleges while there are no regular principals in 17 Aided Private autonomous colleges in State.

“Only senior lecturers are acting as principals in these colleges,” Mr.Das told the House.
Mr.Das said the State Government had formed a policy in 2015 with regard to appointment of regular Principals in aided colleges, which however has been stayed by Orissa High Court.
There are 243 teaching staff posts lying vacant in private autonomous colleges in State, the Minister admitted.
