Flyover Mishap One Dead

As a major flyover under construction at Bomikhal caved in one person was killed while over 11 others including few labourers and a minor girl were injured after a major portion of an under construction flyover bridge collapsed near Bomikhal here on Sunday.

The deceased has been identified as Satya Patnaik (40), a businessman from Bhubaneswar.
Mr.Patnaik’s daughter Sheetal has also been severely injured in the mishap.
The incident occurred when the portion of the under construction flyover collapsed on them when they were crossing the road.
She has been shifted to AIIMS, Bhubaneswar and her condition is said to be critical, sources said.
According to reports, the flyover collapsed this afternoon when nearly 20 labourers were engaged in construction activities at the site.
Few persons are still reported to be trapped under the rubble while rescue operations have begun to rescue them.
Work was started as usual in the morning and as the plastering of the roof was going on the flyover caved in, said Maguni Nayak, a casual labor.
Secretary, Works Nalini Kanta Pradhan informed that already two senior structural engineers have been asked to visit the spot and conduct a detailed inquiry into the incident.
From tomorrow, the team will inquire into the matter and once report will be made available, action will be taken against those found responsible for any negligence,” Mr.Pradhan said.
Senior fire brigade officials with fire tenders and teams of ODRAF have launched a massive search and rescue operation at the spot.
Cutters, cranes have also been pressed into service to expedite the ongoing operations.
Police Commissioner YB Khurania, DCP Satyabrat Bhoi and other senior officials are on the spot and closely monitoring the situation
SRC Bishnupada Sethi and his team visited the spot and coordinating the rescue operations.
