Arithmetic In Politics

There is no sign of elections in the state at least before one year. But, Odisha’s three major political parties have started spending midnight oil over the outcome of the next general elections.

The arithmetic exercise has started among parties and they have been claiming the number of seats to be captured in the next Assembly polls. This is much before people taking any decision.

The exercise was started by BJP National President Amit Shah during his previous visit to the state in July. Shah for the first time claimed that the BJP would win in 120 of the 147 seats in the state assembly.

Interestingly, BJP has the lowest 10 number of seats from among the major parties. While BJD headed by Naveen Patnaik has 117 seats, the opposition Congress has 16 MLAs in the House of 147 members.

Replying the Mr.Shah’s claim, the ruling Biju Janata Dal today exuded confidence that it would win in 123 of the 147 seats in the State Legislative Assembly.

Though our party is targeting to win all the 147 assembly seats, but as per my assessment BJD is confident of winning in 123 seats,” Minister Food Supply and Consumer Welfare , Surjya Narayan Patro said here.

Mr.Patro said that the Janata Dal had won 123 seats under the leadership of Biju Patnaik in 1990. "The BJD will repeat the same," BJD Senior Vice President said.

"We are confident of achieving our Mission-120, said State BJP Spokesperson Golak Mohapatra.

According to BJP State President Basant Panda, party President Mr.Shah will arrive here at around 1 pm on Wednesday and attend the “Sankalpa Se Siddhi” meeting on Friday during his three-day visit to the state.

Senior Congress leader and former Minister Suresh Routray said, "The Congress is confident of winning 85 seats in the 2019 Assembly elections.

Meanhilwe, BJD leader and Minister Damodar Rout criticized BJP and said that there was no harm in indulged into “day dreaming.”

Dr.Rout stick to 123 Number of Mr.Patro and said BJD will get this number in next Assembly Poll.
