Urging for providing quality education in the newly carved out four universities, Odisha Governor S C Jamir has expressed the need for filling up vacant teaching and non teaching posts in these Institutions.

Dr.Jamir today held detailed review at Raj Bhawan with all the four Vice Chancellors of the newly created universities.
State Government has created State Open University, Bhubaneswar, Ramadevi Women’s’ University, Bhubaneswar, Khallikote Cluster University, Berhampur  and Gangadhar Meher University, Sambalpur to provide more space for Higher Learning in the State.
ACS Higher Education G Venu Gopala Sarma, Principal Secretary Finance, Tuhin Kanata Pandey, Principal Secretary to Governor, C J Venugopal and other senior officials were present.
Dr.Jamir said the Vice Chancellors are to provide leadership for improving the educational level in the overall interest of the State.
He pointed out that importance is needed to be attached to see that students from Odisha are equipped with adequate knowledge and skill for successfully competing at the Civil Service and such other examinations at National Level.
The Courses Curricula should strictly confirm to the standard prescribed by the University Grants Commission (UGC).
The Chancellor urged for enhancing Research and Academic activities in the Insitutions of Higher Learning and endeavor for getting more financial assistance from UGC.
He said that Research activities are to be given high degree of attention by the Vice Chancellors.
Particularly highlighting the requirement of outdoor sports facilities for the young students, Dr.Jamir said there is need for infrastructure development in these universities.
Elaborating details he said due attention has to be given for providing necessary infrastructures including laboratories, libraries and class rooms
It is heartening to know that Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD) has identified Best Practices of various States under Rashtriya Ucchatar Sikshya Abhiyan (RUSA) Program.
“MHRD has identified that in India as a whole the transparent procedure of Merit Based Selection of Vice Chancellor (VC)s adopted in Odisha is the correct model and all the States should try to emulate this method”, said a senior official in the Government.
In fact, known as an impartial and honest Governor, Dr.Jamir as Chancellor has appointed about 10 Vice Chancellors in various Universities during his incumbency period and Merit Based Transparent Selection method has been adopted, which has been appreciated by MHRD.
Dr.Jamir has urged the VCs to adopt a Non Negotiable Academic Calendar for timely conduct of examination, publication of results and distribution of certificates, which are the indicators of healthy functioning of the Academic System of a University.
Similarly, fixation of date of admission and registration as well as fixation of total numbers of Academic Days in a Session should be notified before commencement of the Academic Session and is needed to be followed scrupulously, urged the Chancellor.
